First segment of Thu Thiem under-river tunnel connected to approach road

News/HCMC - The first segment of the Thủ Thiêm under-river tunnel was connected to its approach road in district 2, Ho Chi Minh City yesterday after three days of being tugged and immersed.
The relevant units are getting ready to tug and immerse the remaining segments in the follwing months, according to the Management Board of the East – West Avenue Project and Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment.
The work is expected to be completed and put into operation by April 2011.
The tunnel, 1,490 metres in length, is the first under-river tunnel in Vietnam and the biggest one of its kind in Southeast Asia. It is built by Japan’s contractor Obayashi.
