News/Can Tho - The German government has agreed to fund a US$9.4 million wastewater management and treatment project in Vietnam, with an industrial park in Can Tho to become the first beneficiary.
The AKIZ project, to be carried out by the Technical University of Braunschweig, will mainly provide industrial parks know-how to remove toxic substances and harness energy from wastewater and modern technologies to treat sludge and other waste.
It will also help draw up a framework to evaluate the environmental impact of wastewater.
The project, to be completed by 2014, will be piloted at the 290-hectare Tra Noc Industrial Park, which has more than 125 factories discharging 12,500 cubic meters of wastewater daily, severely polluting the environment.
