ME - A new glass bottle factory was commissioned in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Tuesday as a joint venture between Owens-Illinois Inc., Berli Jucker Public Co. (BJC) and Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Co. (Sabeco)
O-I BJC Glass Vietnam Co., Ltd, as the joint venture is named, will produce 75,000 tons annually of mainly returnable glass containers for Vietnam’s beer, soft drink, food, wine, spirits and pharmaceutical markets at the US$47-million plant at My Xuan A industrial park.
The new facility has one furnace, three glassmaking lines and two applied ceramic labeling printing lines. However, the new plant can expand capacity to adapt to market trends, extending production to 84,000 tons of glass annually.
According to the joint venture, the new plant, completed in November 2011, replaces an existing facility in District 4 of HCMC.
Nguyen Ba Thi, chairman of Sabeco, said Vietnam was one of the fasting growing beer markets in the world. “As Vietnam’s leading beer producer, Sabeco needs access to high quality glass packaging to support the demands of discerning Vietnamese consumers,” Thi said in a statement.
