Singapore's Sembcorp eyes thermo power plant in Dung Quat

News - Representatives of Singaporean group Sembcorp on November 22 held a meeting with Quang Ngai provincial authorities to build a thermo power plant in Dung Quat economic zone, the Saigon Economic Times reported.
A source from Dung Quat EZ Management Board said that the visit of Sembcorp is aimed at surveying necessary data for expected project from which the group will consider investing in a thermal power plan in the zone. As expected, the coal-fed plant will have a capacity of 1,200 MW.
The source pointed out that the investor needs an area of 100 hectares of land to develop the project and the municipal authority has shown two locations in Dung Quat EZ to the investor.
The government website www.quangngai.gov.vn on November 22 also reported the visit. Provincial People's Committee's chair Cao Khoa who appreciated the Sembcorp's visit to seek investment opportunities in Quang Ngai and desired the group to soon have study and actualise the investment because the electricity demand inner Dung Quat EZ is very high.
The management board forecast that by 2020 the Dung Quat EZ is estimated to need 1,663 MW of electricity for oil refinery, shipyards, Doosan heavy industry and other light industries.
The visit was the move in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Quang Ngai provincial People's Committee and Sembcorp in the Vietnamese authorities' Singapore visit in September.
In which, Vietnam Singapore Industry Park Co Ltd also signed MoU with Quang Ngai People's Committee to carry out feasibility study on a 1,020-ha complex of urban, industry and tourism in Quang Ngai.
Sembcorp Industries is the world's leading supplier of clean water and maritime services.
