Tan Cang - Cai Mep - A major commercial port in future

Although only operation for more than a year, Tan Cang – Cai Mep port has become one of the two international container ports so far, has partnerships with major shipping lines worldwide. Its size is being increasingly expanded for hundreds of thousand-ton ships handling goods and the diversified port services.
RECEIPT OF LARGE VESSELS ‘S LANDFALL
Before putting into operation of the first phase, the Tan Cang - Cai Mep port’s managers had found partners as the world"s major shipping companies to joint venture, associate to open the freight line directly from Vietnam to Europe, America and vice versa. Simultaneously, traffic through flow of goods from Vietnam to continents that have long transited through a third country.
After one year of operation, Tan Cang - Cai Mep port has received 160 mother vessels of the world"s leading shipping lines and 213 transit vessels; the port receives weekly 3 mother vessels of large shipping lines such as Mitsui OSK Line, NYK, K"line of Japan, Hanjin, Hyundai of Korea, APL-NOL of the U.S, Germany"s Hapag Lloyd, OOCL, Cosfi, Yang Ming of China. Output of goods through the port reached 270,000 TEUs (equivalent to over 2,000,000 tons). Particularly, 168 tours in the first six months in 2010, including 74 mother vessels, 94 transit ships. Output of goods through the port was equivalent of over 130,000 TEUs to 1,200,000 tons. In addition, Tan Cang - Cai Mep port also welcomed the ships transiting from Cambodia connecting to the U.S; shipping barges from Ho Chi Minh City’s area and vice versa.
DIVERSIFIED SERVICES
The ships directly passing have brought many benefits for the import, export and trade opportunities worldwide.
Besides,
the bustling activities of the port also involves the development of
accompanying services such as logistics, finance and telecommunication
services ... Currently, the container port is equipped with shore cranes
with lifting capacity from 35 to 65 tons, boom range reaches up to 50m,
can simultaneously unload two twenty- feet containers. Loading and
unloading capacity from 650,000 to 1,100,000 million TEUs / year for
phase I and will total over 2,200,000 TEUs / year after completion of
the entire project. Not only providing the port operation and delivery
services, Saigon Newport Company also have 3 tugboats providing services
for large ships to shore, 15 barges with a total carrying capacity to
transport the over -700TEU container from Ho Chi Minh City to Cai Mep,
pilotage services ...
Moreover, the port operating system allows users to exchange information and update e-real time.
In
a survey trip to the seaport development system in Ba Ria - Vung Tau
and visiting Tan Cang - Cai Mep, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung
reminded, Tan Cang – Cai mep Container Terminal Company should build a
good service management system and port development strategy in the next
10 years associated with the development strategy of marine economy of
the country.
