HCMC – South Korea’s Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd. has signed a contract worth over US$27 million with PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corp. (DPM) to supply equipment to increase the annual capacity of the local Phu My Nitrogenous Fertilizer Plant by 60,000 tons. Under the deal with the Vietnamese fertilizer and petrochemical corporation, the Korean company will install a carbon dioxide collecting system within 24 months on an area of 1,500 square meters at the Phu My Plant. The entire production line, with a design capacity of liquefying 240 tons of CO2 a day with a purification rate of 99%, will be imported from developed countries, especially the European Union and other Group of Seven industrialized nations. CO2 will be collected from the gas emitted from the Phu My plant itself, which will be then liquefied and mixed up with the excessive ammonia at the plant to produce nitrogenous fertilizer. The technology, with technical name of KM-CDR Process, is exclusively made by Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and has been successfully applied in many countries in the region like China, India, Japan, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
