Transport projects under development.

1. East-West Highway
  • Investor: HCM City People's Committee; capital source; ODA loan from the Japanese Government; total investment: US 660 million, including US$428 million as ODA.
  • Construction progress: From August 2001 to the first quarter of 2005: starting the compensation for site clearance and other basic formalities; the first quarter of 2005: staring construction contracts; in late 2008: completing them.

2. Thu Thiem Bridge
  • Investor: HCM city Department of Communications and Public Works; capital source: the city's budget; total investment: VND1.1 trillion (US$69 million).
  • Started in 2005 and expected to be completed in 2007.

3. Phu My Bridge
  • Investor: Phu My Bridge BOT Joint Stock Co.; total investment: VND2.1 trillion (US$130 million)
  • Started in 2007 and expected to be completed in December 2009.

4. Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Subway Route
  • Length; 19.7km (2.2km underground and 17.5km in the air)
  • Investor: HCM City People's Committee; total investment: US&1.1 billion; 85% of which is an ODA loan from Japan.
  • Construction prepress: in 2007-2008: carrying out the detailed design; in 2008-2014: constructing; in early 2005: operating the railway officially.

5. HCM City-Trung Luong-Can Tho expressway
  • Investor: Vietnam Expressway investment and Development Company or a partnership of local businesses organized by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIBV).
  • Capital source: State budget and capital mobilized from the issue of bonds and a local commercial loan with Government guarantee; total investment: VND9.9 trillion (US$618 million). The first phase of the project is expected to begin this year.

Planning for transport networks in HCM City to 2020

1. Network of urban express way (elevated roads)
  • Route 1: Staring from Cong Hoa Traffic Circle, going along Cong Hoa and Bui Thi Xuan Streets and Nhieu Loc Thi Nghe Canal, and landing on Nguyen Huu Canh Street.
  • Route 2: Staring from the contract point with Route No.1 on To Hien Thanh Street, going a long To Hien Thanh, Lu Gia, Binh Thoi. Lac Long Quan Streets, Route No.3 and Beltway 2.
  • Route 3: Starting from the contract point with Route no.2 on To Hien Thanh Street, going along the extended Le Hong Phong, Ly Thai To, Nguyen Van Cu, extended Nguyen Van Cu, Le Van Luong and Nguyen Van Linh Streets.
  • Route 4: Starting from Binh Phuoc Traffic Circle, going along National Highway 13 crossing the Saigon River, talking Vuon Lai, Nguyen Xi, Dinh Bo Ling and Dien Bien Phu Streets, and liking with Route 1.
